At the end of season 4 we saw Claire and Frank approved as running mates with roaring support from the public and the party. Claire pushed Francis to that point by undermining his campaign with her mother’s fortune. Claire even pressured her mother to give her the money. There are times when I wonder which Underwood is running the show and which one is more despicable. In the trailer we see that it’s business as usual but with a more ruthless Frank. At the end of season 4 he decided that ruling by fear is the best tactic. That doesn’t mean he wants the public to fear him. He wants them to fear the world around them, and Frank and Claire will be their security blanket helping the public through these dark times.

The most interesting part is when Frank mentions there being an Underwood in office in 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, and 2036. Presidents are only allowed to serve for two consecutive terms, but has Frank found a way around this? Frank could be president from 2016 to 2024, and that’s when Clair takes the office. Clair could be president from 2024 to 2032. That leaves 2032 and 2036. I’m guessing Frank would be Clair’s running mate so they could keep their tight grip on the oval office, but how could two people get two extra terms for a total of six joint terms as president? Even if Clair steps down in her last term making Frank the president again he wouldn’t legally be allowed to run for office during the next election cycle. Time will tell.

Are you going to binge House of cards when it comes out in four weeks? How do you think the Underwoods are going to pull off being in office for 2 terms beyond what is legally allowed? Let us know in the comments.
