Marvel’s The Defenders First Trailer & Release Date

Ok, I’m excited for a Marvel Netflix series again! Of course there will be spoilers and speculation ahead.

The Defenders trailer starts off with Jessica Jones in trouble with the law again, but this time it’s with Misty Knight from Luke Cage’s series. It looks like Jones is still a private detective, and she really messed up this time. Jessica is in handcuffs with the police, and there is blood on her face. The blood doesn’t look like it came from Jones, and she said she was trying to help him. Could she be veering a little more into being a vigilante? Of course Matt Murdock enters the room as her attorney. How did he know Jessica was there? Does he already know she has abilities? Murdock/Daredevil could be the Iron Man/Batman of the group.

It looks like sometime after Luke Cage season 1 and Defenders that Claire Temple and Luke Cage got together. She wants him to have a normal life instead of being Harlem’s protector. Somehow Cage and Danny Rand meetup in an alley right as Danny is about to pummel a thug. In typical Marvel fashion, Luke Cage and Iron Fist must fight each other before they realize they’re on the same side. It’s funny watching Danny fail to even move Luke when he hit him. Also, seeing Luke knock him to the ground with one punch was satisfying after sitting through a season of Iron Fist. Then Cage gets an iron fist to the face. That looked like it hurt.

Claire seems to be the glue that keeps the team together. Templeton has been the only character to be in all of the Marvel Netflix shows, so it makes sense that she would be the person to bring them together and get them to play nice. Is Elektra going to be resurrected? It wouldn’t be the first time this happened. Jennifer Garner’s version of Elektra came back to life for her own movie. That’s all I’ll say about that era of Daredevil.

We get our first look at Sigourney Weaver as Alexandra, the antagonist for the season. “The more connections you have the easier it will be to break you.” Sounds like Alexandra is going to go after the people the four heroes care about the most. I’m guessing this means Foggy, Trish, Claire, and Colleen are in for some trouble. We do get a brief glimpse of Colleen fighting 6 men in a warehouse. Towards the end of the trailer we see Elektra is back in action and is fighting Charlie (with a scarf around his head). Is Elektra brainwashed as part of the resurrection process or possibly being blackmailed by Alexandra to do whatever she wants? Finally, it looks like we will be getting the obligatory hallway fight scene again but this time with all four at once.

The four Defenders remind me of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Rand is Mikey, Murdock is Leo, Cage is Raph, and Jones is Donatello. It seems like Marvel has given them similar characteristics as the turtles. Defenders will be a shorter 8 episode season. Hopefully that means there won’t be any slow or filler episodes, and hopefully they give enough time to validate why they all decided to team up. We will find out when the whole season is released on August 18

I can’t wait to see Daredevil in action again. It feels much longer than just 1 year since we last saw him in action. Frank Castle, The Punisher, is noticeably absent from the trailer. However, we know that Castle will get his own 13 episode season at some point. Daredevil season 3 is rumored to be coming out in 2018, so it’s possible that we will see The Punisher later this year.

What do you think of the trailer? Do you think the “blind ninja” and the others will be able to work together? Leave a comment below and let us know.
