Vanity Fair published a first look at the new Tomb Raider actress, Alicia Vikander. Going just by the images, Alicia looks like she was taken from the game and placed into the real world.
Of course looks aren’t everything, and Alicia already has an impressive resume. Like me, you might know her as the humanoid robot from the underrated Ex Machina or you may know her from The Danish Girl where she won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Take a look at her IMDB page to see all the big name films she has been a part of the past few years. 2018’s Tomb Raider focuses on Lara Croft (Alicia) searching for her father while searching for the Dagger of Xian. As you’d expect, things don’t go smoothly for Lara and old family friend Lu Ren (Daniel Wu), and they find themselves fighting to stay alive.
Tomb Raider will be the first time we’ve seen the character on the big screen since Angelina Jolie’s 2001 and 2003 movies. Neither film was well received by critics, but 14 year old me was entertained even though I barely played Tomb Raider on PC. Those films haven’t held up too well over the years, but I bet they’ll get a collectors edition release before Tomb Raider releases in 2018.
What do you think of Alicia Vikander? Do you think her resume warrants her taking the lead role in a big budget game adaptation? Let us know in the comments.
