Hyperkin SmartBoy

I recently stumbled across the Hyperkin SmartBoy device and it brought back many nostalgic memories. The device itself attaches to your Android device and turns your phone into an original Gameboy. It will play GB and GBC games and is also compatible with some Google Play Store GBA games! Keep in mind it plays the cartridges which means you will have to go out and hunt down some of your old favorites if you no longer have them. It is currently up for pre-order on Amazon.com and has a stiff price tag of $49.99.

Right now it works best with Samsung S8 devices and above but it does state that it could be compatible with older Android devices; the full list is below. No word on compatibility with iOS. It also claims to double as a case but in my opinion it doesn’t seem like a very good one – see picture below. It looks bulky and half the screen is exposed. Although very tempting, the price tag is a little concerning, for a device that I have to find and buy the original cartridges for. I feel that $49.99 is a bit much. If priced around $29.99-$34.99 it would be a steal. Included below is a link to pre-order it and check out the specs and full features.
